For all I know, Honorable Jose Yulo, then Speaker of the House bought this 11,000 hectares of land from Vicente Madrigal. He was a distinguished businessman, politician and industrialist. He was a Senator and hails from Ligao Albay. Mr Jose Yulo Sr. bought this tract of land with the sugar central already constructed way back in December 29, 1948. These employees of Canlubang were provided with free housing, water, electricity, free education, (scholarship to UP Los Banos if you excel in high school) entertainment on important occasions, movies every Saturday and Sunday. We have our own Catholic Church, recreation area, swimming pools and golf course. Life is good way back then. Will post some pictures.

Hello Obet: I might still have some photos taken at our re-union last 2006 held at Pansol, Laguna. Although the said re-union was combined with SCCS. I sent it through e-mail back then to every batchmates. I will post as soon as I find it.

Many of you know me, my siblings, and my parents. So as to help you know me more, I created my personal website:

Please visit it at your convenience. I hope you find the articles and poems interesting and useful. Let me know what you think. Please post somethings about yourself also. I don't think there is any other way for us to work together if we don't know much about each other. Sharing private information is not required.

Thanks a lot.

Ceniza David (Barongan)

Hi everyone,

Kumusta kayong lahat mga Canlubang na kababayan namin from David Family

Ako si Ceniza David Barongan. Sister of Romeo, Serafin & Angel David. Three of them graduated in RI and the rest of the younger siblings graduated in Laguna Institute.

But anyway, nagbrowsed ako sa RI website and I was in tears.

Nai i kwento namin sa aming mga anak na kami ay sinuwerte pa rin while we were growing up.

As I asked myself.

LAHAT TAYO ME MISYON SA BUHAY. ISAMA NATIN ANG ATING NAIWAN SA CANLUBANG AT GARANTISADO HINDI KAYO MAGSISISI. ANG KASIYAHAN SA BUHAY AY MASARAP ..............ANG LUNGKOT AY MALUNGKOT. OH!

SALUDO......SALUDO..... SA IYO MELLIE....FOLLOWERS LANG KAMI......WITH YOUR LEADERSHIP WE WILL WORK HARD FOR OUR COMMUNITY UNITY...

PLEASE MAGHANDA TAYO SA YEAR 2012 REUNION SA PILIPINAS,CANLUBANG, LAGUNA

HANGGANG SA MULI.....CENY DAVID BARONGAN(858-705-2217)

Hope, i did not offend anybody...Thanks.

Romeo David (1962)

Good Evening Po Sa Inyong Lahat,

I hope each one of you had a blast and grand time during our three days of Canlubang festivities here in San Diego. These events are planned for the last seven months for the purpose, pure enjoyment and relaxation of all Canlubang legacy. That legacy is "YOU". We are the true wealth and important resources of Canlubang. Togetherness for three days gave us time to renew our soul and express our lonesome feelings towards another. It made us feel really home again. I even imagine "bagaso" floating right above us, the smell of fresh sugar cane, and sugar mill horn blasting at 12 noon.

Execution and success of these events was thru the leadership and hard work of Ms. Mellie Contreras Faunlagui and her team.

It was a short acquaintance. It feels like having a boyfriend or girlfriend for the first time and can not wait to see each other again. Do you feel the same way? I do. I can not wait to have another. What's your's.

Sincerely,

Romy

Many Canlubang folks have suggested to change the name of this website to www.canlubangcommunity.com instead of just RI alumni association. Members will include everyone who lived, worked and studied in Canlubang. What do you say about this? Need your feedback.

Response to #17

Dear Mellie,

It will be a great idea to welcome those who do not go to school at Rizal Institute. Those who are willing to come and join us. There should more better name and ask everybody about this. What ever will be the highest vote then I will just be there. My childhood playmate in elementary, Ma. Suzette Reyes whom I told to come at the re-union in Canlubang before told me that she cannot join cause she did not graduate at Rizal Institute? Perhaps you can still add the Rizal Institute Alumini & CSE Association? In that case , we do not loose all your potential in creating this website. God bless us all!

Thanks for your input, you have good suggestions and I believe the best solution  is to retain this RI website and establish a new Canlubang Community site.  However, there is a  yearly fee involved. Now I need your input as to how we can cover this yearly dues. Some suggestions that came up -
1. by monetary donation -
2. charge each member $5.00 per year

And with the money collected,  the surplus will be used toward future gatherings. Great idea???

Remedios Pusag (David) (1961)

hello there! I spent almost a week (pasingit-singit lang) viewing the videos of the 2009 Grand Reunion of RI Alumni Class 1952-2008, the messages posted by some of our kababayans, and the uploaded old photos of our beloved Canlubang. Sad to say, I became teary-eyed, almost choking to control my sobs because all of those pictures are now just memories - the sugar central, the asphalted roads, the verdant greens (where our famous homegrown golfers caddied and putted holes), the baseball field that produced the famous Canlubang Barons, the kampamentos, the duplex and staff houses, the Casa de Nipa, the single engine plane flying over every 15th and 30th of the month which always signified that workers of the Pabrika would be receiving their sahod, the market, the Cooperative, the open cinema, the happy valley swimming pool, the recreation hall, and countless other amenities that provided residents of Canlubang comforts and privileges no other azucareras in the country could duplicate. As I occasionally visited my siblings in Canlubang, I saw how it transformed from a well-known sugar-producing central into a hub of countless factories. The lushed sugar cane fields were divided among the children of the  Jose Yulo,Sr.-Carmen Araneta, the Pabrika ceased operation, and now what is left of the Canlubang Sugar Estate is becoming a ghost town . . .the hospital is nowhere in site, dilapidated houses, roads impassable, no electric power lasting for more than a month, no potable water to drink . . . . the former People's Paradise way back 1950s is now a haven of  what-nots. . . really frustrating . . .lucky for those who were able to acquire housing at LEDC and the neighboring subdivisions. Is it possible to bring back the hand of time and make rectification so that we could preserve the jobs, the comforts, and the privileges our parents and we have enjoyed then? Wishful thoughts are free . . . .

 Response to message #17

Dear Mellie,

I really appreciate the idea of changing rizalinstititealumniassociation to the suggested website to encourage not only alumni of Rizal Institute to browse the web, but also give way to past and present residents of Canlubang to share inputs/comments/uploads photos/videos about our beloved Canlubang Sugar Estate. The suggested collectible fee is reasonable but how will you collect?

The core group of Class 61 is now preparing for our Golden Anniversary next year. frantic na kami and the majority would like to hold the reunion as early as January 2011 before daw maubos ang members ng Class. Menchie Tapay and Robert Yabut made pledges and Ching Trinos, our appointed President won't divulge how much she would contribute to subsidize the contribution of our less-fortunate batchmates. Considering that most of us are all connected to PAL (PALamunin na lang ng mga anak) or CHEMIST (KE-misis na lang umaasa), we are really at a lost when it comes to financial aspect of the celebration. You may note that Benben Julve passed away a couple of months ago and we feel handicapped because he was the most active of our Class. We intend to make the reunion a simple but memorable one with the common wish na everyone of us would still be around (alive and kicking to do the boogie and cha-cha) for the planned grand reunion in 2012. Through this Message Forum, I hope I can reach to some members of Class 61 and hear their comments. Regards to you all, and hello to the one who commented on my post (disguised and hid behind the alias of "you don't know me").

Mellie Contreras (Faunlagui) (1962)

Kudos to class 1962 for all the mini-reunions we have been doing for such a long time. Every year, when someone comes home from abroad, we always make it a point to get in touch, eat out, go shopping together, and catch up. We maintained communication alll these years and it was really easy to organize a 1962 class reunion. Not only that, class 1962 has the most number of graduates living and working overseas and they are all very generous when it comes to contributions.
My suggestion, have someone be incharge of class 1961 here in the states/abroad and let him/her communicate, collect the dues and be the main contact. In the meantime, the hardest part is getting the class 1961 from the Philippines join in. They might feel embarrased, but invite them to come and just bring something - a basket of fruits, kakanin , whatever they can bring.  On weekends, go to their house, and invite them personally. Have some tarpolins displayed - the best place - by Mercury Drug...... at our age, this is where we see most of our friends -(joke lang).  We had our class '62 reunions at Ding Hao, Blusyl Pansol, also day trips to Villa Escudero, Hidden Valley, Island Cove, RSM Calamba.  These are some suggestions and I hope helpful. Good Luck, Class 1961..

To: LITO REYES

By this time you must have known from Rod the stat about the Class 59 Yearbook which we tried to borrow from some members of your Class. I am not losing hope the possibility of getting a copy from your batch who are still living and residing here in the Philippines, like Luring Partoza Amistad, Florentino Catura, and several others listed on the web. I even requested my former colleague at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas whose cousin is the wife of the late Ling Briones. Mahusay mag keepsake ng memorabilia si Vicky Briones and I am sure she must have kept intact all the records of Ling. We really appreciate your effort of uploading at the web the Rizalian Pioneer of various Classes. Unfortunately, as I have mentioned before, from Class 61 (our batch) what used to be a yearbook turned out to be a simple magazine of 50 pages. Thanks for your effort and regards.
